One common misconception in beauty is about different eyelash extensions. You may be wondering why some are more expensive than others. Well that's because there are many types of lash extensions. These can be categorised as follows:
CLUSTER LASHES -
These are also known as Party lashes. However, they are frequently listed as individual lashes in beautician's. They are individual "cluster" lashes. They're a small cluster of lashes, usually about 3, with a little bulb on the end. They are applied with a temporary adhesive to the lash line (these may touch the skin without a reaction). These usually last a few days. These can be removed easily at home.
STRIP LASHES -
These are lashes which are found in a strip that is placed along the length of the lash line with a temporary adhesive. These are usually worn for a special occasion and only last a few days at most. These can be removed easily at home.
EXPRESS LASHES -
These are individual eyelash extensions which are applied on top of your natural lashes by a qualified technician with a strong adhesive. These MUST be professionally removed by your technician 2 weeks after being applied. This is to avoid damage to your natural lashes. These take around 45 mins to an hour to apply, hence the name.
SEMI-PERMANENT INDIVIDUAL EYELASH EXTENSIONS -
These are individual eyelash extensions which are applied by isolating each of your lashes and having one lash applied to each of your natural ones. This takes approximately 90 mins to 2 hours. This method allows for infills every 3-4 weeks to keep your lashes looking full as they fall out with your natural lash cycle. These do not damage our natural lashes. These MUST be removed by your technician if you would like them removed. Please do not pull them as the adhesive used is very strong and will more than likely pull out your natural lashes too.
Taking care of your semi-permanent lashes:
- - Do not get them wet for the first 24 hours to allow the glue to set fully.
- - Avoid using any products with oil in them as this can break down the glue.
- - Avoid using mascara UNLESS it's a water-based one, which you can purchase from your Lash Stylist.
- - Do not pull your extensions out. They are attached to your natural lash and you can end up with gaps.
- - Make sure you return to your technician to have your lashes removed or infilled in the correct timeframe to keep them healthy and looking their best.
What Are Semi Permanent Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions are designed to lengthen, thicken and enhance your own natural eyelashes.
I apply Individual Premium Quality Synthetic Mink Eyelash extensions which come in single strands of differing lengths, thicknesses and curl.
Eyelash extensions can enhance your natural look, or we can create something more dramatic, the choice is yours.
How is it done and what if any preparation do I need to do?
I will have a consultation with you on arrival about the look you would like to achieve and I will advise you on what I think would suit your eyes and we discuss and decide.
If you wear contact lenses, please be aware that you will have to wear your glasses for 24hrs after application while the glue bonds completely and your contacts MUST be removed prior to application.
If you are concerned about your eyes sensitivity, a test patch can be done where I can apply one or two eyelashes (discreetly) to each eye and you can monitor your own eyes reaction to it.
Relax lying down (you have to be able to lie flat) while your bottom lashes are gently taped down and your upper lid taped to become raised slightly but not open your eye, then the lash extensions are individually applied one by one to your natural top eyelashes. The application process normally takes anywhere between 1 to 2.5 hours depending on your lashes and the look desired.
How long will they last for?
When applied and cared for properly, eyelash extensions can last indefinitely with in-fills.
Because the extension (when applied correctly) is attached to your natural eyelash and not your eyelid, they do not damage your own natural lash growth cycle.
The length of the lashes applied, your own natural eyelash life cycle and lifestyle/medications/stress/crying can affect their lifespan, which just may mean more regular in-fills are required to keep them looking full and luscious.
How often should I get an in-fill?
Infills can be done every 2 to 6 weeks but you decide when (generally at weeks 3-4) - as long as you have at least 50% of your existing eyelash set. You need this amount left to qualify for an in-fill.
Infills include your lashes being cleaned, any old ones that may be about to fall off are taken off and your lashes restored to their previous lusciousness!
If you want more lashes; all you have to do is ask. Please note: an additional cost and time will occur for this.
Can I shower, swim and exercise wearing Eyelash Extensions?
Yes, once you follow the aftercare advice of no wetting your lashes for the first 24 hours after application, then your eyelash extensions are waterproof.
You should always avoid direct contact with the jets of the shower on the lashes and wear goggles when swimming.
Can I apply mascara to Eyelash Extensions?
It should not be necessary but if you must use mascara make sure it is water based, this is available also to purchase at my salon. Never use oil or water proof mascara as it will damage the glue used to bond the lashes.
This also goes for makeup remover; make sure it is always water based e.g. Simple make up remover wipes.
